The residents of Uzhgorod have answered whether they support the construction of an underground multi-level parking lot on the Poshtova Square.
Uzhgorod is the administrative center of the Transcarpathian region with more than 100 thousand inhabitants. Like all major cities, it is overloaded with vehicles. This problem is acute in the city center. Here are the main administrative, commercial, cultural and educational buildings situated, but there is not enough space for parking. One of the possible solutions to this problem is the construction of a multi-level underground parking lot on the Poshtova Square.
Uzhgorod City Council initiated a public consultation to find out the opinion of the city residents on this issue. There were only two answer options: 1.) Yes, I support; 2.) No, I don’t support.
The public consultation started on March 12th and lasted until March 25th. During this time, 1042 local residents joined the discussion. As a result, most of them, namely 77.2% or 804 participants in the discussion, supported the idea of constructing a multi-level underground parking lot on the Poshtova Square. However, quite a few participants don’t support the idea of such construction. Namely, 22.8% or 238 participants of the public consultation spoke against the construction of the parking lot.
Public consultation is a process of communication between local governments and citizens (all stakeholders) through which both parties become aware of different perspectives and proposals. It is a tool that enables citizens to influence the content of decisions made by local governments.
