The regional team of Institute \u201cRespublica\u201d organized a forum theater in Kropyvnytskyi<\/strong>. The event was devoted to the problem of discrimination of labor migrants and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the implementation of the constitutional right to participate in local elections. 27\u00a0people attended the event.<\/p>\n

\"\u0410\u043a\u0442\u0438\u0432\u043d\u0430<\/p>\n

Participants of the event created a performance and demonstrated it to the audience (IDPs, local government, law enforcement agencies, public activists, media). People discussed the existing challenges and problems in the field of electoral law of IDPs and tried to find answers, shared emotions and thoughts.<\/p>\n

The forum theater was held within the framework of the project, which aims is to promote the realization of constitutional rights of IDPs and their active participation in the development of the community and the country through the tool of direct democracy \u2013 elections.<\/p>\n

One of the participants, Victoria<\/strong>, who was in the role of representative of local authority, said that the problem should be solved. Everyone living in the community must be considered a member and be able to influence decision-making. However, during the years of war in the East, the Ukrainian authorities did not solve their main problem \u2013 housing.<\/p>\n

IDPs from Luhansk region Svitlana<\/strong> was shocked by the pessimism and indifference of many local residents: they did not go to the polls or sold their votes for 200 UAH or a kilo of buckwheat.\u201cWe have elect our authority, deputies consciously and control their activities, participate in the management of local affairs. It`s the only way to change the city we live in\u201d,<\/em> Svitlana summed up.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Reference. Similar performances are held in 20 Ukrainian cities within of the Institute “Republica” and the All-Ukrainian initiative “Active Community” with the support of the Democracy Promotion Foundation at the US Embassy in Ukraine.<\/p>\n
