Volodymyr Chemerys<\/p><\/div>\n

Institute Respublica (IR) was created in\u00a01997<\/strong> as a socio-analytical center. The founder is\u00a0human rights activist, freedom of peaceful assemblies classic Volodymyr Chemerys<\/a>. \u00a0Experts of the\u00a0Institute developed a draft law “On status capital of Ukraine – Kyiv ” adopted by Verkhovna Rada in 1997. That same year, President Leonid Kuchma vetoed the law.<\/p>\n

1998 – 2000.<\/strong> Institute formulated and proposed the idea to the public and government about necessity of changing the system of political, social and economic relations in the country and the necessity of transition to a parliamentary republic in Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Institute became one of the ideological center of the new democratic movement in Ukraine and \u00a0leading human rights organization in the country.<\/p>\n

2000-2001.<\/strong>\u00a0IR\u00a0became the basis for the movement “Ukraine without Kuchma”<\/a><\/strong> which was sent to the resignation of President Ukraine Leonid Kuchma. The action was supported by 24 political parties and NGOs.<\/p>\n

2001.<\/strong> IR implemented the\u00a0project “Law against abuse of power” (civil rights of young people regarding the free expression of their views and prevent political repression by the authorities).<\/p>\n

From 2001<\/strong>\u00a0Institute specializes in the rights of citizens to peaceful assembly as a primary means to defend any civil rights.<\/p>\n

Institute began a systematic monitoring observing the right to freedom of assembly. During several years the Institute has published a number of publications related to human rights,\u00a0namely:\u00a0“I have a right” (on\u00a0the rights of students), “Case 9 March” (on\u00a0the first political prisoners in independent Ukraine).<\/p>\n

2002.<\/strong>\u00a0 IR\u00a0carried\u00a0the project\u00a0“Partnership for Reform in Ukraine” in the framework of the Freedom house.\u00a0\u00a0Institute initiated the creation of the first in Ukraine Commission on journalistic ethics and national journalism organization – Alternative Union of Journalists of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

2003.<\/strong>\u00a0IR\u00a0released on the screens documentary “Faces of protest” about the social causes of action “Ukraine without Kuchma”.<\/p>\n

Also the Institute began to publish regular reports on the right to peaceful assembly in Ukraine.<\/p>\n

In 2004<\/strong>, the Institute became one of the founding members of the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

2005.<\/strong>\u00a0Institute Resoublica in coalition with other human rights organizations from the public sector for the first time developed a draft law of Ukraine “On freedom of assembly”, which was submitted to the Verkhovna Rada deputy of V. Musiyaka, but the law was not accepted.<\/p>\n

2005-2012.<\/strong> Volodymyr Chemerys was the\u00a0Council commissioner of \u00a0the Public Affairs of Ukraine on Human Rights on freedom of assembly.<\/p>\n

2006 \u2013 2013.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0IR actively protects \u00a0in Ukrainian and international courts right to peaceful assembly.\u00a0Also it insisted on cancellation of several local “Regulations on rallies and demonstrations” that did not correspond to the law.<\/p>\n

2010.<\/strong> Institute initiated a collection of signatures under an appeal to President Obama\u00a0demanding pay compensation to the family of the deceased 2003 in Iraq Ukrainian journalist Taras Protsiuk.<\/p>\n

In 2011<\/strong>\u00a0upon the initiative of Institute Respublica it\u00a0was established a coalition of NGOs Nationwide initiative “For a peaceful protest”.\u00a0In general initiative\u00a0conducted 40 public event, collected more than 15 thousand signatures for a petition to the President and the Supreme Council \u00a0of Ukraine for the Protection of the right to peaceful assembly.<\/p>\n

In 2012<\/strong> All-ukrainian Civic Association “Institute Republica”\u00a0was established.<\/p>\n

2013 – 2014.\u00a0Euromaidan.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Euromaidan<\/p><\/div>\n

Experts and activists of Institute Respublica\u00a0took part in the events of Revolution of Dignty – Euromaidan.<\/p>\n

    \n
  • IR almost round the clock monitored the situation in the regions and provide counseling, legal aid to activists.<\/li>\n
  • Most of the coordinators of IR\u00a0participated in the coordination of \u00a0Maidan Public Councils in Ukraine.<\/li>\n
  • Institute brought together social movements and organizations on Maidan\u00a0for joint efforts and coordination. It was created\u00a0Maidan Public Councils as a result.<\/li>\n
  • IR conducted informational campaign\u00a0of telling the truth about events at the square.<\/li>\n
  • Provided legal advice to citizens.<\/li>\n
  • Conducted 11 trainings, 2 congresses of Initiative “For a peaceful protest”, 2 press conference and became co-organizer of the Forum of \u00a0Euromaidans ( Kyiv, 1-2 February 2014).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    As a results of \u00a0developments in the Euromaidan\u00a0IR\u00a0created printed edition Our news\u00a0\u00a0in May 2014.<\/p>\n

    2015.<\/strong> All-ukrainian Initiative “Active Community” was started.<\/p>\n

    In partnership with the Movement “Chesno” implemented nationwide campaign “Follow the money”.<\/p>\n

    IR\u00a0started the project “Monitoring of implementation\u00a0legislation on lustration in Ukraine”.<\/p>\n

    IR started nationwide campaign “Roadmap for the Government”.<\/p>\n

    2016.<\/strong>\u00a0In partnership with the Civil Society Institute launched nationwide campaign “Successful Community” to promote the decentralization reform in Ukraine.<\/p>\n
