On September 16, a meeting of the Active Community Club was held in Kamianets-Podilskyi, where participants discussed issues of information hygiene and media literacy.
A training session called “Information Hygiene” was held at the Central City Library of Kamianets-Podilskyi at a meeting of the Active Community Club. The students of the college of construction and design became participants of the training. Why students? Because young people spend a lot of time on the Internet.
Our training showed that they are well aware of the topic of fakes. They understand what it is and what it is used for. However, in the detailed analysis of this concept, we realized that not everyone knows how to distinguish between fakes and propaganda. And even more, not everyone knows how not to hit them with a “hook”. Therefore, the purpose of this training was to teach modern youth to eliminate the fakes and propaganda from the realities of today.
In our opinion, children are the most vulnerable category of the population suffering from information manipulation. Modern teenagers have been born “with phones in their hands”. It is a familiar medium of communication for them and even their habitat. Tthe older generation use phones, social networks and generally the internet when needed. And young people wake up and fall asleep with Facebook, Instagram, Telegram, etc. Therefore, it was important for us to understand whether the participants are able to distinguish between fakes. And, most importantly, whether they pay attention to it and do not trust them – said Slavko Polyatynchuk, the regional coordinator of VI “Active Community”.
Participants looked at various publications, articles, analyzed speeches of politicians. They tried to find in them signs of manipulation or populism. They also learned how to check and analyze information in practice. In our opinion, we have been able to tell the necessary information to the audience.
I liked the event and I think it will be a real benefit. I now understand how badly fakes affect us. Other people can manipulate ours minds when they do not know the truth. I think that the practical task we did helped us learn to distinguish between fakes and manipulations. Now I will definitely check all the information, which I hear or read, – says the training participant Andrew.
It was nice to see the participants’ interest in considering this topic. We are convinced that we have wonderful youth. They are incredibly smart and quickly absorb information. We were pleased to work with them and share our knowledge.
We hope that they will use it information in practice and tell about the negative impact of fakes to their friends.
Thank you all for your participation.
